susan was tugging on my pant leg insistantly whining. i tuned into her words.
"come on, teach me calculus! i want to learn calculus"
"but honey you are only in first grade (irl she's in kindergarden) you can't learn calculus"
"but i want to!"
"honey you can't, you don't know enough math yet."
we went back and forth about her math skills for awhile.
"ok kiddo how bout this. i can teach you...algebra! thats just as good as calculus"
she pouted a little but consented.
then i had to wait for her to change out of her uniform into her play clothes. We sat down at a table and i tried to illustrate 3x=4 using blocks. other kids kept crowding around they wanted to learn calculus as well.
such a bizarre dream. none of the kids at my afterschool program like math even a little. maybe this means i really want to teach secondary math instead of elementary special ed? who knows.
