I was on a flight to Ithaca, New York, and it was much more luxurious than I'd expected it to be. The plane looked like a cruise ship, with a long, wide cabin lined with plush blue carpet. Everyone's seats were spread out among the cabin, and the flight attendants had been instructed to make everyone a different meal. I realized that I had forgotten to request the vegetarian meal when ordering my ticket, and when the flight attendant came around, she started making me a chicken and rice dish. I said that I didn't eat meat, and she asked if there was anything else I would like instead. I said I would just take the rice without the chicken as long as I could have some grated cheddar cheese to go on top of it. The flight attendant handed me a vat of grated cheese, though most of it had melted together and looked rather old. I felt sick to my stomach and declined the cheese.
