I was back in high school, taking AP English. My class met in the room where I took AP U.S. History my junior year, and the desks were arranged to make little tables. I was sitting with my best friend Emily. Our teacher, Mr. Friedman, explained that we were going to be taking a field trip to Augusta, Georgia one day next week, and he wanted everyone to know where it was. He wanted all of us to drive there at night, in pairs, to make sure we could find the city on our own. This didn't make much sense to me, and I wondered about the liability of the whole thing if one of us got in an accident, but I didn't say anything.
Before we left, I realized I had to run an errand. I left the classroom without saying anything and eventually found myself in the motorcylce shop where I've been working the past few days. The sales manager, Gerrit, was there, and he began acting very strangely toward me. He was overly friendly and almost flirty, asking me if I wanted to do anything with him after work. He kept telling jokes and trying to keep me around the store. I was just there to pick up my paycheck. I grabbed it after Gerrit had detained me for a while. He tried to follow me back to the school, but I was too fast for him.
When I returned to the classroom, everyone was heading out for the trip to Augusta. Mr. Friedman was in the process of lovking the door when I arrived. "Wait!" I said. "Let me grab my stuff!" mr. Friedman let me back in the room, where I took my purse and packpack. I met Emily outside the classroom, and we headed off.
The next thing I remember is the two of us riding in my car at night. The other students had left before we had, and we had no one to follow. We were on a deserted road in the woods, probably nowhere near Augusta. Somehow we made it out of there, though, because I was soon back in the AP English/History classroom again. Mr. Friedman was showing a video that his other AP English class had made. It was obvious that he was playing favorites, and that he had only made us go on the field trip because he didn't think we could produce a video like his other class had done. They had put on a musical. I recognized all the students in the video as having been in chorus in high school. They weren't half bad.
