the sun is hot. it beats down on me. the sun's red light covers the sand
and me and this man. the sand moves on its own ... like water. it ripples
when I take steps toward the man. he moans and weeps. his body is marred. he
has holes all through him and he looks at me for help. his eyes beg me for
help. eyes into my soul. I pull a blade the length of my forearm out of my
belt... I drive the blade into my leg. burning pain shoots through my body.
I repeatedly cut pieces of myself out and put them in the mans holes... when
I have healed him, fixed him, he disappears and I am alone bleeding out my
life... the sun goes down and the moon is visible. it turns cold and the
wind starts to blow... and I can feel the air passing though me. kneeling on
the ground now... I start to sink into the sand. is there no one to help me?
and suddenly I am in the woods and the lady with violet eyes is holding me.
"what have you done, Zilpha?" she expects no answer, "you almost didn't make
it to me this time dear." and the pain is gone.
