It was the day we were scheduled to leave for Congrès -- a statewide French competition for high school students. I left gym class and began to make my way to fourth period French, though in the dream it was only second period. It was a Tuesday, by the way (in reality, we will be leaving for Congrès on a Thursday).
I was feeling terribly overwhelmed. I'd just had my two big toenails removed (I went through this in "real life" last week) and was totally stressed. I hadn't prepared for any of my events for Congrès -- I hadn't memorized my poem, I hadn't studied for casse-tête (brain brawl), and I hadn't prepared for my scholarship interview. I also hadn't packed a suitcase.
On the way to the French classroom, I took a very strange route past the administrative buildings. While walking, I passed Kate, who was also competing at Congrès. I asked her, "When are we leaving?" Her reply? "Right now."
Holy shit. I panicked, and ran to French class. There were about three people in the room, including a little boy. It was very dark.
I explained to my French teacher my toe surgery and she was very upset and sympathetic. But the issue of my not being prepared was never resolved.
Shift!
I was now at an unknown location, watching "Survivor" with a group of people I'd never seen before in my life. The episode that was on had apparently been filmed during my gym class and I had conveniently stepped into a shot.
Barramundi was competing in a reward challenge, I believe, on my school's football field. My gym class was on the field and along with some of my peers, I stepped directly into the path of the camera.
So, behind all the "Survivor" contestants, you could see a bunch of kids in white shirts and purple gym shorts. I was throwing a basketball around. Why I had a basketball on the football field is beyond me.
Somehow, I was able to rewind and pause "Survivor," which would indicate that it had been taped. But it was my first time seeing that episode and I never miss an episode!
I somehow zoomed in on myself and I looked different -- more attractive, I felt. I then noticed "I" wasn't wearing my usual shoes. What if that wasn't me!? I wasn't sure anymore. Maybe I'd been cut out of the shot. That was very disappointing.
Next thing I knew, I was at home. My mom was going to drive me to Orlando and Congrès, since I had missed the bus. We were both really excited and I suddenly felt prepared. I told her about the "Survivor" episode and she was a little embarrassed that we'd screwed up the scene. We both agreed it was so tacky to be filming on a high school football field instead of the Australian outback.
