So, I was all dolled up in this really, really

starched "Dorothy" outfit from the "Wizard

of Oz," only the dress had a very, very full

skirt and was very corsetted in the middle.

I had red bows on the ends my braids that

glowed like stop lights.



Both of my arms were out at my sides at

90 degree angles, and I was rapidly skimming

along the top of a very dark ocean at night, with

my feet ankle deep in the water, a little like a

fast sailboat.



I could not let my arms drop or the water would

swallow me. My arms were very very heavy,

and I had to concentrate deeply to move ahead.



People I know were in small cartoonish fishing boats covered with bright and festive lights that would occasionally pop up along side me, and

they would shout greetings and I could not

look back or wave or the ocean would swallow

me whole.



It was very tiring; as I was so much faster than

the little fishing boats and they could not keep

up with me. I felt so tired and lonely but if I let

my arms down I would sink and drown.



And so, alone, I traveled a long, dark ocean.
