It was dark and I was naked in the middle of a hilly apple orchard, freezing my arse off.
There were no leaves on the ground, and I was trying to find a way to get warm. The ground was covered with moist, green moss, which was lightly
steaming.
I grabbed first at the leaves, but every time I reached for the leaves, the branches would move
out of my grasp, and bugs fell on me.
I tried to dig under the moss, to make a pit to bury
myself in with my hands, but the ground was hard,
rocky, and the moss bled hot acid on my hands.
I tried to wipe the acid off of my hands, onto anything, but I could not reach the trees, I could
not reach the leaves, and all of the moss had
begun to secrete acid so that my feet burned as
well as my hands.
The ground began to pulsate, like a heart, and
there was a shrill sound which quickened as
the pulsating grew more intense.
All of the apples began to smoke and rot, and
then burst into a fine white dust that made my
eyes burn.
Then the ground turned into mud, and I was
sucked under, and the earth closed around me,
and I could not breathe.
